Crimen y castigo: Resumen y análisis

 Raskolnikov goes to an old pawnbroker named Alyona Ivanovna to pawn his only valuables. The old woman, corrupted by greed, lends him a small amount of rubles—since she charges interest upfront—and dismisses the young man, who has no choice but to accept the miserable deal. On the way home, Raskolnikov thinks about where he will hide the money. He passes a tavern and decides to go in and have a beer.
